About Jon

Jon Thompson is the Senior Pastor of Sanctus Church — a multi-site church in the Greater Toronto Area and online — where he has served for 25 years. He holds a Master of Theological Studies from Tyndale Seminary and a Doctorate of Missiology from Fuller Theological Seminary.

After spending his childhood in Ecuador with his missionary parents, Jon began his ministry as the Youth Pastor before assuming his current role as Senior Pastor at Sanctus Church.

Passionate about engaging seekers, skeptics, and believers about the Christian faith, Jon has authored three best-selling books: Convergence, Deliverance, and Perseverance. Convergence is the intersection of spiritual gifts, spiritual disciplines (or practices), and unusual works of the Spirit (revival), offering a framework for living the authentic Christian life. Deliverance applies the philosophy of Convergence to one specific ministry area, detailing a 20+ year journey of a pastor and a church helping desperate people while remaining deeply rooted in biblical faith. Deliverance explores Scripture, church history, five major models in deliverance ministry, authority, spiritual gifts, and the contextual realities different churches and cultures face.

Jon’s third book, Perseverance, delves into the complexities of Christian calling and endurance in ministry. It covers themes like living under imminence, the role of love and rest, leading with humility, embracing death, fear, and weakness, radical transparency, spiritual gifts and tensions, and the courage to face suffering and homesickness. These themes help form a healthy ecosystem for enduring ministry, aiming to be among the 30% who not only finish but finish well.

Jon loves his wife, Joanna, and their three kids. His favorite foods are Indian, Thai, and Mexican (in that very specific order).
